 www.englishbrothers.com English Brothers Company General Contactors has a long and impressive history in Champaign and Central Illinois. The company was founded in 1902 by Richard C. English and Edward C. English after they graduated from the U of I. Many of their early building projects were on the U of I campus. This included the construction of Memorial Stadium in 1923. The founders of the company were succeeded by Richard. C. English’s sons, Edward & Richard C., Jr. They were later joined by Edward J. Hynds, Sr., their brother-in-law. Today the company is headed by Edward J. Hynds, Jr., Chairman of the Board and Michael Hynds, President. Recently the company has added its 5th generation family member with the addition of the Grandson of Edward Hynds Jr., Richard Hynds. Just of few of the building projects that English Brothers has been involved with include Lincoln’s Tomb in 1930-1931 in Springfield, Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, completed in just three months during World War l, and in more recent years, Parkland College and the Illini Union just to name a few. In meeting with Michael Hynds you can understand the strong commitment to making sure this family run company succeeds in the construction industry for another 100 years. He is very proud of their focus on quality work. On September 5th, 2000, English Brothers Company was honored by that day being declared “English Bothers Day” by the City of Champaign and the State of Illinois. Both Edward Hynds Jr. and Michael Hynds are very involved in all the Union trades by serving on various boards. English Brothers has been a union-signatory contractor the entire time they have been in business. Union Labor works for them!
